AboutTroy High School in Troy, Michigan is on a mission to promote more environmentally sustainable practices among our student body and entire school district!
This student-led renovation project of the school's courtyard will reduce our overall carbon footprint and inspire students of all ages from the Troy School District to be engaged and involved in hands-on projects that better the world around them. The additions to our school's courtyard will improve students' learning environment by providing numerous health benefits such as decreased anxiety levels and depression relief. In fact, a study from the University of Michigan suggests that going outdoors - even in the cold - improves memory and attention. We hope to create a safe and welcoming space in the school's courtyard for students and faculty to take a whiff of fresh air during breaks, eat lunch with friends, meet with colleagues, and even take classroom learning outdoors! Here are a few eco-friendly construction projects funds will go towards: 1. Compost Bed 2. Outdoor Extension of Hallway (Using 100% eco-friendly raw materials including recycled rubber and Trex) 3. Fruit and Vegetable Garden 4. Oak Tree Nursery 5. Gardening tools 6. Butterfly garden and birdhouse tools 7. Outdoor seating Thank you for supporting our initiative! With your support we can make a change starting in our own community and encourage others to do the same! |
